How to wash a duvet cover

Washing a duvet cover is not that different from washing regular clothes. We do however receive questions about this rather often. In this article, we will give you some advice on how to wash a duvet cover properly.

What you should pay attention to while washing a duvet cover

When you want to wash your duvet cover and your pillow cases, it is important that you wash them inside out. By doing this, you make sure that the color remains. If you wash it regularly, the colors in your duvet cover will rapidly turn vague.

The type of washing program in your washing machine depends on the material. The best thing to do here is to check the label. Usually you can wash all darks and colors on 40 degrees Celsius (setting: cold) and whites on 60 degrees Celsius (setting: warm).

Duvet covers and pillow cases usually tend to contain a lot of bacteria. The cleanest way would be to wash it at 60 degrees Celsius (warm), because more bacteria will be killed in the process. Do keep in mind however, that this might cause your colors to turn a bit vague over time. You can choose what you find the priority in this case yourself.

It is important to keep in mind not to use too much laundry detergent. Too much will leave stains that are really hard to get out. Check the instructions on your laundry detergent for the exact amount needed.

After washing the duvet cover, it is recommended to have it dry by hanging it up rather than putting it in a dryer. The dryer will cause the duvet cover to shrink a little bit (around 2/3 percent probably and less every time after that).

These tips on how to wash a duvet cover should be sufficient to have you sleeping under nice clean sheets.
